Downy Rattlesnake Plantain

Downy Rattlesnake Plantain

Blue Hills Reservation, Milton MA 8/7/04
The small brook where I've been photographing has receded below its stony rubble and moss bed. On edge of the stream colonies of Black Trumpets have appeared. In a patch of dried sphagnum moss a very small red mushroom was sprouting. It's tempting to walk around the woods looking down there are so many mushrooms, but be careful, this white-faced hornet's nest is located at head height.
